Translating into English from civil law to common law legal systems goes beyond the normal problems of translation from one language to another. Often, there are no "matches." This is because the translator must use a legal structure that exists in one language and legal systems but not in the other. For example, trusts exist in Anglo-American but not in the German civil law system. Approaches will be explored for dealing with such translation challenges.

M.V. (prestataire de services d'hospitalisation à domicile)"

The session will provide home-brewed and experiential tips from a practising 'actor'. The Tips will include on-stage performance and off-stage preparation.
The session will provide the following:
1. De-linking the 'load' of perception with the designation of CEO - a non-business school and non-corporate approach
2. Non-business, non-operational, non-specialist approach to prepare for the role
3. Profound competitive advantage of playing the role well.
4. Behavioural cues - natural and acquired
5. Opportunity of discovering other unknown talents of one's own
6. Channelling these talents for business advantage - the de-fault respect the designation commands (except for few ethically challenged ones in recent times)
7. To experiment, experience and learn from the Acting and the Act
8. To meet and question such an Actor !

|
| Sep 14, 2012 2,562 views, English, uploaded by Sales Admin
The relevance of Machine Translation (MT) for translation service production contexts is touching the daily lives of translators and other language-related roles. We have seen a new flood of info during the past 2 years about statistical MT being the new generation of tools that obsolete the old generation. Is it really that new and innovative? Jeff brings his experience over 2 decades on all different types of MT engines, systems and software to help pinpoint the key points of what to ask about a proposed MT project or the choice of an MT system, and how to avoid getting caught in a dead-end project that wasn’t set up from the outset with an appropriate methodology in place for use of MT. He will address what is new, what is different, what appears to be different but really isn’t, and how to be careful in accepting or refusing to work on projects involving MT.

Forces Shaping the Industry in the Global Village of the 21st Century
|
| Sep 14, 2012 2,474 views, English, uploaded by Sales Admin
This session is a wake-up call to the future. Technology is transforming the profession at the speed of light. Instead of resisting technology, translators and interpreters must embrace it and learn how to use it to further their professional advancement and intercultural communication. Embracing constant change is vital for survival in the global village of the 21st century.
If translators and interpreters do not become part of the digital revolution occurring in the second decade of this new millennium, we will be left out of the loop of progress... just what happened a few decades ago to those office workers and freelancers (including translators) who refused to learn how to use a computer ... they quickly became professionally obsolete because they were no longer able to interact in the modern interconnected world. Today, we need to learn about the new tools that have been quickly becoming an intrinsic part of the modern world.

Post-Editing is often seen as a low-skill low-reward activity that only the worst translators would agree to do. However, in a broader context, as there is a much broader context for post-editing related work and there is also possibly the emergence of new linguistic analysis roles.
The session will cover the following issues:
Post-editing can involve and be any and all of the following:
Basic brute force correction of bad MT translation
Analysis of error patterns and development of rules to handle error patterns
MT quality assessment to enable fair post-editing compensation
Average effort measurements • Sampling • PEMT Rate setting
Development/creation of new data to make the MT engines more intelligent
Linguistic problem solving e.g. How do you build an MT engine for SMS or Chat?
Focused translation strategies for scarce data scenarios to solve new kinds of translation problems

Q&A session recording for The key essentials for successfully passing an ISO9001 (or other) audit for certification from the 2012 Advanced Translator Skills day on ProZ.com.

ISO9001 and other international standards (15038:2006 - European Translation Services, TL9000 for Telecom, CMMI, etc) have often obtained a poor reputation for creating a significant amount of administrative overhead and much paperwork. Jeff Allen has coached and led 2 major software companies (MYCOM and SAP France) through successful certification and also 3-year recertification as the ISO9001 Quality Management Representative and Quality Manager of each company, and provided expert knowledge for audit preparation at 2 other companies including a major translation company. His coaching principles and implementation have resulted in a record number of good points (highest score in audit reports) in his most recent audit series, and even received a major acknowledgement by an experienced external auditor who had never seen such a great adoption of quality management in such a major company. In this session, he shares with us his expert insights and advice on how to cut through all the details of these standards and get to the real key essentials, and how to use these to promote a successful adoption of ISO9001 among production and development teams, including doing this in agile, scrum-bused, lean framework environments.
Jeff will provide analogies to help team members of different roles understand the real benefits and relevance of ISO9001, with a minimum amount of paperwork. He will show how he has made the topic of ISO9001 not only a fun topic of discussion, but really driving the team members to adopt and implement it with conviction.

Regular expressions often sound like a step into the dark arts… who, other than a magician would know that \b[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}\b was a way to find an email address? But don’t be put off… SDL Trados Studio can use regular expressions in many places so with a small amount of knowledge and some simple expressions you can really enhance your productivity and make your life a lot easier when handling numbers, product codes, text files etc. This session will remove the magic and show you enough to get started.

Kilgray's most recent release - memoQ 6.0 - will be available soon. No memoQ 6.0 webinars are planned prior to the Virtual memoQ Day, so you’ll be the first to learn about the features and concepts behind version 6.
The main concept behind the development of memoQ 6 is refactoring: analyzing and optimizing the main areas within the tool. We did this because we believe that an improved core will allow you to achieve even more with the software: the process of analyzing and optimizing can lead to a better, more cost effective process.

The translation of a dynamically changing website, translation of documentation while the technical writers are still working on it, games and software translation are just a few examples of large projects that a multilingual translation vendor needs to process. While it is possible to do most of this in a text editor, with sending files back and forth manually, it is not worth it. The project management overhead justifies the use of a cleverer solution.
This session demonstrates how multilingual vendors can process complex projects where the source also gets updated as the translation happens. The memoQ server's flexibility enables clever project management, and as a result, large-scale savings in large and complicated projects - the ones that generate the lion's share of your revenue.
This session will be followed by a LIVE Q&A session with the presenters, please submit questions at the top of this page.

Among translation companies, single language vendors (SLV) work typically with multilingual vendors or translation end-users.
Differentiation for SLVs is increasingly hard. There is a price pressure both on the customer side and the translator side, and multilingual vendors often prepare the project to minimize the costs. The way to be more competitive is through productivity, faster turnaround times and better consistency.
The memoQ server is the tool of choice for many SLVs. They have found ways to deliver difficult projects that others are not able to, and they can deliver these projects in most file formats, even if the customers use other tools. Interoperability is the key to delivery, and the leveraging tools in memoQ are key to productivity.
This session demonstrates how single language vendors can use the memoQ server to become more productive, and, as a result, more profitable.

Regular expressions are special rules that allow us to find a text meeting specified conditions and do something useful with it. In memoQ, this “something useful” may mean, among others things, conversion to a tag or inclusion/exclusion of a text for translation.
This presentation will show how to use the “Regex text” file filter to import and translate complex text files (e.g., programming languages source code or .ini files), and how to use the “Regex tagger” feature to convert some parts of text for translation into tags (and why it is needed). Some very basic introduction to common components and syntax of regular expressions will be included.
