English term

Dollar utilization

English to French Other Business/Commerce (general) location de matériel
Hi all, I understand the concept but I can't find a clear French translation.
We're in the context of equipement rental and it's the ratio between the annual cost of rental vs acquisition of an equipment.

Any help welcome.

Daryo Feb 25, 2022:
OK ... that makes it clearer.

So this "dollar utilisation" is a kind of "return on investment" - invest 100k€ in buying generators and then "get back" 84k€ in annual rental income = 84% dollar utilization.

"rentabilité financière" sounds right. As long as it's clear from the context that it's specifically about money "invested in buying equipment to be hired out".

Daryo Feb 24, 2022:
"ratio between the annual cost of rental vs acquisition of an equipment" would be a ratio that makes sense only from the viewpoint of the "user" of the equipment, NOT from the view point of the company offering equipment for hire.

Any more details? Few full sentences where the term was used?

Or it is a ratio calculated from the viewpoint of the rental company? As in: ratio of "how much was earned from renting the equipment" compared to the "cost of acquisition" like yearly rental income 90.000 vs cost of buying that equipment 200.000?

For whose benefit this ratio is being calculated?
david henrion (asker) Feb 24, 2022:
"an average dollar utilization of around 85%"

https://chartersoftware.com/blog/rental-measurements-time-ut...

https://www.point-of-rental.com/the-secret-to-balancing-util...
Ici item utilization semble proche de time utilization
Note from asker:
Merci

disagree Daryo : if you take a look at the explanatory footnote (4), you'll see it's a completely different kind of index.

The dollar utilization can be likened to a sales revenue to capital employed

What is sales revenue to capital employed ratio?

Sale revenue to capital employed ratio This ratio is concerned with effective utilization of a company’s asset. It is computed by dividing the sales revenue by the capital employed.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : yes and no - in this text it's not about the overall revenue compared to the total "invested capital", it's a comparison made for individual "investment in buying equipment for hire".
