French term

une sommaire spéculation de la technique que suit ce même monde

FVA French to English Art/Literary Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
I am actually translating following interview from French into Chinese.
This is an interview photographer Henri Cartier-bresson did for Brazilian magazine Manchete in 1969.

Le photographe doit-il être présent dans le monde où il vit, ou pourra-t-il faire de la photographie une simple abstraction ou encore, une sommaire spéculation de la technique que suit ce même monde?
– Le photographe-chroniqueur doit être dans la vie ; le dilettante est dans son univers, le technicien dans ses éprouvettes. Il y en a pour tous.

I am not sure about what this part "une sommaire spéculation de la technique que suit ce même monde" means exactly. I managed to translate it according to the hints given by corresponding answer part.
Could any native French translator help to explain your understanding in French or English for me?Thank you in advance!

make a brief conjecture of technical procedure ... as followed naturally by the world?

Very artsy, I'm not fluent enough to try a proper answer, sorry

a brief speculation about how this world works

Obviously the literal meaning is "the technique this world follows", but I think this is what he's getting at.
Note from asker:
Thank you, philgoddard! Your answer gave me new idea! Since Cartier-bresson mentioned “le technien” in his answer. Do you think it would be possible that “ce même monde”means “le photographe” and “la technique”means “la photographie”?
