español term
el pueblo, presidente
español al inglés
Ciencias sociales
Gobierno / Política
human development planning
This phrase appears on the cover of a long Nicaraguan human development policy plan/proposal. It does not appear in a specific context, i.e. it is not part of a sentence or a paragraph. It is printed next to logos and appears to be, as it is printed in a stylized font, a logo unto itself.
This seems to be a frequently used phrase as a motto in the current Nicaraguan government.

I have an idea of what this phrase may mean in terms of the spirit of the words, but have been checking to see if there be a standardized English translation of this much used (at least in contemporary Nicaraguan government) phrase, and thus far have not had any luck.
Many thanks in advance

the people govern
This is the idea. In Spanish I understand it means "the people are the president"
The people rule would be nice too if "rule" wasn´t such a popular exression

I just thought of: "The people at the presidency" ... always in the same line

power to the people
But because the power truly belongs to the people (el pueblo presidente!), Ortega will speak again later ...

Note from asker:
This is something that had occurred to me before. Clearly this is the spirit of the source text and it is a recognizeable phrase in U.S. English, so it's got that going for it... but at the same time it doesn't quite seem to "feel" right either... |

: Knowing Sandinists well I think this is what the logo means. It might sound "too strong" specially for Europeans but as a sociologist who graduated in Mexico (next to Sandinists in exile) I'm certain this is what the logo means. Good luck.

The President, on behalf of the Nicaraguan people, ...
Sorry simply can't bring myself to accept "power to the people"
Note from asker:
It would seem that "Power to the people" is the spirit behind the words, but I agree, it's not quite the right register or wording for this "context"... |

for the people,for the President!
Perhaps it´s a kind of slogan typicall from "Communist" or left winged Governments,as in my country...Cuba!

the people, the presidency
It seems to be a motto expressing the relationship of identification/accountability between the office and the people.

Now I capitalize On Purpose! This is the sense of it: The People hold the title of President.
