Source text - French Ta maman est partie. Est-ce que tu comprends? J'ai fait oui de la tête. Tu es en sécurité ici. Tout ira bien, tu verras. Seulement, il faut que tu arrêtes d'appeler ta maman. Il parlait doucement, mais il y avait ses yeux, très froids, une sourde menace sous la douceur des mots.
J'ai senti qu'il valait mieux ne pas les contrarier. Ils risquaient de faire du mal à ma mère si je n'obéissais pas. Alors, j'ai obéi : j'ai cessé de l'appeler, pas de penser à elle. Il me fallait bien ça pour supporter les bruits.
Il en venait de partout, à l'assaut de ma chambre. Des chuchotements derrière la porte, et les gémissements des enfants enfermés dans les chambres voisines comme des cafards sur mon visage, des mouches grignotant mes tympans. Même en remuant la tête, très fort de gauche à droite, je n'arrivais pas à m'en débarrasser. Ils s'accrochaient à moi, ils me mangeaient le crâne, sans jamais s'arrêter.
