Um uomo senza molti scrupoli ha usato il nome di un ignaro amico per ottenere delle informazioni.
Quando quest’ultimo lo viene a sapere, si infuria e va immediatamente da lui a chiedere spiegazioni.
L’altro ê in ufficio, gli annuncio che è arrivato l’amico, subito pensa di farsi negare ma poi si dice che doveva accadere e cn faccia tosta dice di farlo entrare.
Preparandosi, pensa:
“He would be quite bland, but young Bob might whistle for an explanation...”
Posso tradurre “avrebbe fatto il vago” ma il giovane Bob eccetera?
Avrebbe fatto il vago, fare il vago può adattarsi a un “be quite bland”?

A differenza di quanto dice il collega, secondo me è proprio una sua riflessione. È un dialogo tra sé e sé, si ripropone di essere cortese, o di fare finta di niente, ma va riflettendo che l’altro potrebbe chiedergli spiegazioni (e dunque non sa se la sua strategia possa funzionare).

A differenza di quanto dice il collega, secondo me è proprio una sua riflessione. È un dialogo tra sé e sé, si ripropone di essere cortese, o di fare finta di niente, ma va riflettendo che l’altro potrebbe chiedergli spiegazioni (e dunque non sa se la sua strategia possa funzionare).

Leggendo tutto il cotesto io direi così.
"He would be quite bland..." non è quello che pensa lui, ma è la narrazione in terza persona di ciò che accade...
"Bland" significa anche "che non mostra emozioni, interesse, etc. " quindi che rimane indifferente, imperturbabile. Nonostante ciò, avrebbe dovuto dare delle spiegazioni al tizio che entra nella sua stanza.
