: here, however, the possessive is referred to "l'Assicurato" ( it's "l'Assicurato" who acts in the capacity of investigator, not the company)- who is likely to be an individual

Fair enough, would need more context though to decide which way the phrase should go. If the insured is a male natural person, then "his" is correct. If the insured is a legal person, then still "its".
