Medical
This reaction is mediated
by antigen-specific TH 1 memory cells which
migrate into the tissue at the site of contact
with the allergen, where they are stimulated to
maturation and cytokine release (IL-1, IL-2,
INF-g) by antigen presentation (Langerhans
cells, macrophages). This results in a build-up
of proinflammatory processes involving all the
cell types whose objective is to attack allergen-bearing
epidermal cell structures.
