douche spray

I'm not sure these are common in the USA (bidets also are not), but here in Brazil they have become very common, replacing the older bidets. Just bought one last week! :o)

Oh, and by the way, a bidet is called "bidet" here.

Sorry folks, but "bidet" is the wrong translatin for this. I used "douche spray" because it's the closest I could come in English to describe this item, which does not exist in the USA. A "douche spray" in the USA is something else altogether, as the pictures show. Believe, me, I live in Brazil, and here a bidet is a bidet, not a spray hose!

Please see the first row of images. This is a ducha higiênica...the last image is especially good, because it shows how it is installed in the bathroom.

I really hope you don't use bidet as the translation, as it is dead wrong!

Although this comment hasn't yet appeared here, someone said that it must be a bidet because it is on a list of equipment to be installed, and a douche spray seems to be portable. Wrong! A "ducha higiênica" has to be installed. See the last image in the first row. Really, you're just guessing, but I know what a ducha higiênica is.

In answer to the added note above, "hand-held bidet" might be another way to translate it, just not "bidet" alone!

I propose: hand-held hygienic spray

neutral Marcelo González : From a purely marketing perspective (in the English-speaking world), "douche spray" does not sound very good. Other options without the word "douche" might be considered.

If it's not a "shower," this might be it. Though French in origen, the word is used in English, as well (at least here in the US).

As Amy points out below, this is different from a "bidet" (though its use is the same); thus, I suggest something like "hand-held bidet (spray wand)."

At least in the US, the use of "douche" might not go over very well at home improvement stores (given its common association, at least in American English).

Final suggestion:
ducha higiênica = hand-held bidet (spray wand)

neutral Amy Duncan (X) : a bidet looks like a toilet bowl, a "ducha higiênica" is a spray hose...two very different things used for the same purpose!

Since the function is basically the same, a better option would be "hand-held bidet."
