The fibrous form of matter has a tendency to the cohesion and creation of agglomerations in the liquid suspension which take the shape of flocks, skeins, bunches, and in extreme cases even of felted fleece. Mixing such a suspension only causes motion of the whole fibre agglomerations, whereas the liquid contained in the inner agglomeration space is in a state of relative rest. Then, mass exchange occurs by means of almost pure diffusion, which results in the process proceeding very slowly.
