Is this a traditional Algerian dance, type of poetry that is sung, troup? I have come across Berber dancing videos with the name Rahaba in it, but nothing specific about what it is.

De rien
Sam Berner (asker) Nov 26, 2007:
Post it, Ghazal - not the link, but what it says, as an answer. Pretty please? OK, folks, we have the answer, but it belongs to Sheikh Ghazal, who thought a bit out of the box and did his search in French. Merci, Cheikh Ghazal.
Assem Mazloum Nov 26, 2007:
also the meaning Hani provided might work...we are in the dark here...
Assem Mazloum Nov 26, 2007:
as for the committee, well yes, as a kind of "Dabkeh" at the entrance or something...that's all I can say.
Assem Mazloum Nov 26, 2007:
dear Saleh, that's exactly why I didnt post a response, the asker stated beyond doubt that it is not a musical instrument, that's ofcourse if she was sure 100%. otherwise, I'd go with your answer...
Saleh Dardeer Nov 26, 2007:
Dear Assem,
the context indicate that it is a musical instrument because طبلة ورزنة are musical instrument. Also, how come that the wedding is established or celebrated by the welcoming people for seven days
Thanks
HTH
Assem Mazloum Nov 26, 2007:
Hi Sam,
Was there a welcoming group or committee, I mean in the clip you watched?

if yes I guess the word should be " the people who welcom the guests"
a welcome committee رحّابة
Sam Berner (asker) Nov 26, 2007:
I have no idea how "folklore" has become "fisheries". My apologies. Can the moderator fix this, please?

El-Rahaba

Derived from the word chaoui irhaben, rahaba refers to a group of people dressed in traditional polyphonic singing songs in ancestral chaoui (Berber dialect), accompanied by bendir and gasba.

It is a song originating in the Aurès (Algeria), today became popular thanks to the technological evolution of musical instruments as well as women's participation in those meetings. We find this type of singing in various festivals in the region of Aurès-marriages among others.

The use of guns has always been essential to lead the singing. There are professionals in this type of job, but now everybody can use these guns, which did not fail to cause many fatal accidents to Aurès.

The clothes are also important: the colors and style should be respected. Not to mention that each member of the group plays a special role: Use of bendir (traditionally associated with men), learning and singing the text itself.

Oops, it is written in Arabic not English in the first link. Anyway, here's the excerpted text from that link

Note from asker:
No, because the "rababa" is not used by the Berber in Algeria.
