spruce cone, pine cone or fir cone acc. the conifer type
The most common conifers in Europe are:
- pine = Kiefer (Waldkiefer, lat. pinus sylvestri),
- spruce = Fichte (Rotfichte "Rottanne", lat. picea abis),
- fir = Tanne (Weißtanne, lat. abis alba).
The pine cone is short and hangs toward the soil.
The spruce cone is long and hangs also towards the soil.
The fir cone is long, but it stands upright on the branch.
The needles from the silver fir (Weißtanne, abis alba), Bergkiefer (pinus montanus), Waldkiefer (pinus sylvestri) and Sibirische Tanne (sibirian fir) are commonly used for production of conifer needle oil.

that's right, pine cone is popularly use instead of fir cone or spruce cone, similar to the German use of "Tannenzapfen" instead of "Fichtenzapfen"
