I don't think mar di dentro means inland sea, it would seem to be the part of the sea that hugs the coast, but I can't research it now.

This definition of "inshore" is that given by the BBC weather centre. Others exist which include "where the waves break". Obviously bays, inlets and river mouths are "inshore" as of course are stretches of "straight" coastline.

Not sure if you need a specific geographical term or something more descriptive: this suggestion is intended to be the latter - I am not a geographer :o).
