Dutch term

vullingsbehoefte

Dutch to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Context:

Also, what is thuisgewicht? Is it just another word for normal weight?

Discussion

Tina Vonhof (X) Jun 9, 2009:
It refers to the tendency for the body to fill up with and retain fluid in response to trauma, hence the increase in the patient's weight. I have experienced this myself at one time. I have searched but can't find the right translation and refs. to support this.

transfusion need

If I understand correctly, this refers to the lack and need of blood. However, it is broader than that. It is about the need so supply the patient with more body fluid in general:

A lack of body fluid can be solved by transfusion of blood plasma and/or blood cells. In general I would say transfusion need. For example in:

"Establishing Transfusion Needs in Burn Patients"

Thuisgewicht: I am not sure, but presumably simply the "normal" weight a patient has when outside hospital, or the weight before the problems started that brought him/her into hospital.

need for fluid replacement/resuscitation

fluid replacement/resuscitation are used to describe the process of replenishing body fluids including blood, sweat and so on.

How about baseline weight for thuisgewicht?
