German term

Wirtschaftsschulverband

German to English Bus/Financial Education / Pedagogy
Seems to be a type of school in Poland. Sorry no more context. This appears in the education listing of somebody's curriculum vitae.
Thanks in advance!

Discussion

Beatrix Read (asker) Jul 8, 2009:
Birgit, it definitely relates to education higher than elementary school. I have two entries, both with the header Wirtschaftsschulverband. One lists a Wirtschaftslyzeum, which I guess is a Wirtschaftsgymnasium. But under the next "Wirtschaftsschulverband" header, they list postsekundäre Berufsschule.
Birgit Gläser Jul 7, 2009:
I want to agree with both answers, but it's a tie Considering the research by Kim, I'd euqate the Polish business school with the German "Berufsschule" (or lower) and the commercial school possibly with "Höhere Handelsschule". In modern international language a "business school" (business as in economics) is something you do after Abitur/highschool, so it would have a more elite ring to it than commercial school. In Poland it seems to be the other way around, but if the definition is "in poorly written English" do we know if the author did not make up the terms himself trying to find suitable expressions? @Beatrix: Did the person list any dates in the education section so that you can figure out if it was part of elementary/secondary education or even past the highschool equivalent? By the way, I just looked up "Handelsschule" and that comes up with "commercial school" - who would have thought...

Here's a description in poorly written English:

Education in Poland

In the field of commercial education two types of schools stand out
definitely — the business school and the commercial school. Both
types are fulfilling a real need by training definite groups of people
for a definite purpose. The business school looks after the interest
of the retail store keeper who conducts his business on a small scale;
the commercial school aims to give vocational training to men and women will prepare themselves for clerical positions in commercial
and banking institutions. The business school is of elementary grade.

The commercial school has a higher standard of organization based
on six years in an elementary or three years in a secondary school.
The course of study lasts three years, exclusive of the preparatory
class attached to the school for candidates insufficiently prepared.

Business School Association

Just a translation of the words. Could also be an Association of Business Schools, or something like a School Association dealing somehow with economics or business.
