The lower bluff marks the boundary between the backshore zone and the landslide material. The landslide material area appears to coincide with a noticeable bulge of the shoreline seaward of the adjacent coast in both the air photos and the satellite imagery. A localized bulge in the shoreline can also be observed by looking at the surveyed toe of the bluff (Figure 3). The trestle is located at the approximate apex of the bulge. This bulge advances the shoreline a distance of approximately ±50 m over an alongshore distance of approximately 8 km. The shoreline bulge is also visible in available imagery and has likely been present over a ***geologic timespan***. This shoreline bulge may result in a steeper nearshore environment compared with adjacent shorelines which may result in higher wave energies in the nearshore. The effect of this bulge on coastal processes is unknown at this time.
