Spanish term

pera limonera

Spanish to English Other Food & Drink fruit
In a supermarket flyer in Spain. In the dictionary it says "large variety of pear" - I'm hoping for a specific type of pear. Lots of photos in Google, but I'm no pear expert - is it maybe a Bosc pear??
Proposed translations (English)
4 Dr Luis Guyot pear
3 lemon pear
3 "limonera" pear

pera limonera is the fruit in this context This was a fruit advertised in a supermarket flyer - nothing to do with the slang for hilarious. Unless they´re selling "hilarious" for 99 centimos a kilo!

A la pera limonera también se la conoce por Doctor Jules Guyot. Se trata una fruta que presenta una forma irregular y una piel lisa, muy fina y de un color verde claro que se vuelve amarillo cuando madura.

The Guyot is a typical summer pear that is juicy and sugary and which is normally consumed from the first ten days of July through the end of August.

"limonera" pear

As far as I can see it comes under the Pyrus Communis variety of pears and is commonly called a "limonera" pear or as Jenni suggests "Lemon" pear.

Mulberry Fair, £3.29 per litre There are two flavours of these delicious new mulberry-juice drinks: mulberry and sanguinello orange and mulberry and limonera pear. You just have to decide if you need perking up with orange or soothing with pear (Waitrose, Selfridges).

Abstract:
Pear decline in Spain, associated with the presence of phytoplasmas in sieve tubes, was studied. Samples of healthy and diseased pear trees were tested to confirm the presence of the pathogen. The polymerase chain reaction(PCR) technique was used, with universal and specific primers. Specimens ofCacopsylla pyri were also analysed by PCR. Phytoplasmas were detected in 79% of trees with premature reddening, in 67% of trees with weakness and necrotic spots (cv. Limonera) and in 20% of trees without symptoms. The pathogen was also detected in the psyllids, indicating thatC. pyri could be the vector of the disease in Spain.

This might help

Hi Lisa, there's a restaurant at the top of my street that goes by this very name and the interior decór is based on these small, bright yellow pears that you can see in the photos. http://www.laperalimonera.com.es/ No idea what they're called but it might point you in the right direction.
