No, he decides, not my problem if the ***puddle pirates*** blow a good tip. But if they unknown vessel turns out to be smuggling drugs, it could be just like when he first took this job.

Even if you were in the National Guard you were a dodger!!! What a bunch of crud. I had a vet tell me just the other day that a guy that went into the CG did so to keep from going to Nam, what an a$$!

Puddle pirate is a derogatory term for Coast Guard. It comes from the fact that they usually stick close to the shore. Squid is Navy, Zoomie is Air Force, for obvious reasons. Army is Ground Pounders,

пираты побережья

(1) в отличие от"пиратов открытого моря"
(2) очень разумно дать ссылку с пояснением значения "puddle pirates/mud puddle pirates/ coasties".
(3) при прямом использовании "Береговой охраны США" совершенно пропадает регистр языка молодого военнослужащего, - тем более, что весь фрагмент фразы "if the puddle pirates blow a good tip" - "если 'пираты побережья' угрохают солидную наводку" -требует очень аккуратного обхождения
