Bernd Runge Sep 20, 2010:
CBR-Test CBR stands for california bearing ratio.
Langenscheidt lists. Stempeldurchdrückversuch m <qualit/textil> (z.B. Geotextilien) static puncture test; CBR-test
and both are used quite frequently in the geotextile testing context.

Geosynthetics -- Static puncture test (CBR test)
ISO 12236:2006 specifies a method for the determination of the puncture resistance by measuring the force required to push a flat-ended plunger through geosynthetics.
The test is normally carried out on dry specimens conditioned in the specified atmosphere. The test is applicable to most types of products, but not to materials with apertures greater than 10 mm.

measurement of plunger puncture resistance / plunger puncture resistance test

Ernst Wörterbuch der industriellen Technik" suggests "plunger puncture" for "Stempeldurchdrücken" in the context "Versuch an Textilien".

Googling "plunger puncture" together with "textiles" results in hits referring to the measurement of "plunger puncture resistance".

At least one hit suggests "plunger puncture resistance (CBR) test". A little more research is required to find out what "CBR" means!
