Discussion

Bill Harrison (X) Jan 26, 2011:
Sometimes I think... ... I am the only person here with a sense of humour. 'Nite All.
Rebecca Jowers Jan 26, 2011:
Also, just for info, the in Spain the expression "socio capitalista" doesn't imply "filthy capitalist intent on exploiting their penniless worker co-workers", but rather is used in this context (and in the context of partnerships, whether "sociedades colectivas" or "sociedades comanditarias") to describe a member whose makes a capital contribution to the business: Al socio colectivo que aporta "bienes" a la sociedad se le denomina "socio capitalista", y al que solamente aporta "industria" (trabajo, servicios o actividad en general) "socio industrial".
Rebecca Jowers Jan 26, 2011:
Hi Bill, If you look at my entry, it wasn't I who claimed that "los socios de una SLL son siempre trabajadores", but rather a Spanish website where you can get legal advice for setting up different types of companies: asesores.com/mercantil/sll.htm. The SLL isn't necessarily 100% employee-owned, but it's the business form to choose it you want to set up an employee-owned company in Spain. In other respects, for me "Labour Limited Company" just doesn't convey the idea of "employee-owned". Also what you call "filthy capitalists" are merely worker-owners who choose to contribute capital rather than labor, usually because their skills are not readily needed in the business model. I say this because at least two groups of my translator colleagues here in Madrid have set up SLL's, and some (the best translators) are the "workers" while others chose just to support the venture with capital while dedicating their efforts to other tasks.
Bill Harrison (X) Jan 26, 2011:
Actually from a ... ... quick bit of research it seems that 49.9% of the company may be owned by filthy capitalists intent on exploiting their penniless worker co-owners.
Bill Harrison (X) Jan 26, 2011:
Rebecca, I was surprised when you said that "Los socios de una SLL son siempre trabajadores," because as I understand them some may not be so I followed your link and it contradicts itself a couple of paragraphs later when it says "Los socios pueden ser capitalistas (no trabajan en la sociedad), y trabajadores (trabajan en la sociedad). ". They call themselves 'asesores' but I don't think I would seek their advice.

agree philgoddard : This is more helpful to the reader than a literal translation.

Thanks Phil. I agree that the literal translation doesn't convey the fact that the majority of the business is employee-owned

or LABOUR LIMITED COMPANY:

The temporary employment rate in cooperatives and labour companies is 30.5%, similar to that of
the total employed population, which is surprising in businesses formed by workers who are generally
also members or partners, i.e. the owners of the enterprise. The temporary employment rate has two
poles, however: 26.9% in the case of cooperatives and 42.9% among **labour limited companies (sociedades
limitadas laborales).**
