English term

NRD chytrid fungus

English to Spanish Science Zoology Paper on amphibians
The context is a checklist of conditions for a species of amphibian to be reintroduced into the wild:

Inv. species YES NO
Int. pred. YES NO
Hum. encr. YES NO
Agr. terr. YES NO
HDF YES NO
NRD chyt. fun. YES NO
Pol. water YES NO
Poaching YES NO

I knoz "chyt. fun." stands for "chytrid fungus", but I am puzzled by what "NRD" can stand for and how can I translate it.

Lourdes Sanchez Apr 7, 2011:
creo que por aqui van los tiros non-redundant (sequence) database

http://nar.oxfordjournals.org/content/33/suppl_1/D501.full

dada la dificultad en identificacion entre algunas especies de hongos se estan usando tecnicas genomicas para su identificacion. Dime si concuerda con lo que buscas

non-randomly distributed chytrid fungus

I think it refers to "non-randomly distributed" fungi in the sense that it is known to a high degree of certainty that the fungus is present in this geographical area. Therefore, they won't release the frogs into the habitat because they are 100% sure the fungus is there.

"We have shown that a wide range of AM fungal genotypes colonize plants at Pretty Wood. This study is among the first to demonstrate the non-random distribution of AM fungi among different host plants in planta in the field. We show that within a relatively diverse plant community, the distribution of the AM fungi is significantly non-random."

By the way, I've provided you with the meaning of "NRD", but I forgot to provide the Spanish translation:

"Hongos quítridos de distribución no aleatoria".
Peer comment(s):

agree Lourdes Sanchez : good work, I think this could be but non random distribution refers to patterns of distribution that are non stochastic -> there are further factors to be studied and they need to find the areas where the fungus is not present as viable for the frogs
