Portuguese term

2ª subsidiariamente

Portuguese to English Law/Patents Law (general) terminology
Can anyone explain and suggest a translation for this little bit of legalise?
This is in respect to a lawsuit judgement summing up.

Portuguese term (edited): a 2ª subsidiariamente
Selected

the second one as secondarily (liable)

Please note that the definite article is essential to the source term. That being understood, "subsidiariamente" indicates that the liability ascribed said party is a backup, regarding the other (main) liable party, that is, a secondary liability (see reference). Now "a 2ª" (a segunda) indicates the second named party and, in proper English we cannot omit "liable" (as opposed to the appropriate omission of "responsável" in Portuguese). Therefore we arrive at

the second one as secondarily liable

[order them to pay] the latter (being) severally liable,

a segunda = the latter (the second one referred here)

subsidiariamente = severally liable
