set shifting

English to Spanish Social Sciences Psychology For USA
Part 1 of the test is a brief, timed test of visual scanning and visuomotor tracking that is included as an index of speed of processing. Part 1 involves connecting consecutive numbers that are arranged in irregular locations on a sheet of paper. Part 1 does not involve switching between two sets of consecutive stimuli and, therefore, does not emphasize working memory and set shifting.

Many thanks!!!

Hi, seems to be that quite a few Spanish pyschologists use "set" or "criterio"..see

Christine Walsh Nov 20, 2011:
I have my doubts that you'll find an actual translation. Liz has done a lot of research and what she's found are more like paraphrases. I don't think you'll be able to get away from the word 'set'. I googled with 'serie' and found practically nothing, but this is helpful in understanding what it's about:

Christine Walsh Nov 19, 2011:
As I understand it There are quite a few tests (Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Cambios) that 'measure' cognitive flexibility and are described in Spanish as 'pruebas/tareas de flexibilización cognitiva', and in English as 'set shifting tests/tasks'. We'd need a specialist to be quite sure. Meanwhile I found this:

The English term '(set) shifting' appears in many articles in Spanish - which of course oesn't mean it's right!

Liz, thanks for taking the time to do all this research, I really appreciate it and it has been very helpful. After much reading on the subject, I agree that cognitive flexibility and set-shifting are not one and the same.

Thank you Christine! I am not Spanish, but I think the use of "criterio" is a good option, particularly as Sp psychologists use this:)

Do you think 'alternancia de sets cognitivos', as in your last ref., might fill the bill? Most of the Spanish articles use the word 'set', and most possible translations of the word don't seem to fit. Saludos, CW.
