Spanish term
autoras de nuestros días
Non-PRO
Spanish to English

"...eso no me excusa de haber infravalorado a las autoras de nuestros días"
I understand the meaning, of course: our mothers! But in order to keep to the tone of the original I'd like a similar phrase (corny?). I feel as if I had it at the tip of my tongue, but it just doesn't come to mind. It's from a period novel.
Many thanks in advance!

It's respect for the woman who bore us. My husband's son is of the same opinion. I would do anything in the world for him but we don't possess ...

women who brought us into the world / gave us life
To tell the truth, I like Lorena's suggestion of "gave us life" is good, but I'm a bit diffident about posting it since she mentioned it first. But "brought us into the world" is also a suitable cliché, I think, just cheesy enough and not too formal. I find it used a lot in relation to Mother's Day:
"May is the month we celebrate Mother’s Day and the Festival of the Christian Home. This is the month we honor mothers … those women who brought us into the world and helped us to make our way through it, and to become who we are today."

"It takes place May 13 this year, a day in which we all honor the women who brought us into the world or raised us, those women we call “mom.”"
