German to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Demographic change

I come across this term frequently when translating and editing sociology texts. German academics and researchers invariably translate it as 'social reporting', but I have my doubts as to whether there is such a term in English and whether anyone would know what it means. What they mean by 'Sozialberichterstattung' in my context are the studies, reports, etc, prepared by research institutes in Germany analysing social phenomena, in my case the issues associated with ageing populations. These research organisatios frequently advise the government on policy initiatives and could in some respects be equated with think-tanks. They describe their work as 'Sozialberichterstattung'.
Any thoughts? Is there such as an expression as 'social reporting'? I usually translate it as 'reporting on social topics'.
