Darius Saczuk Apr 5, 2014:
There's a nice Dominican club in Queens...If anything, let me know...;-)
Sp-EnTranslator (asker) Apr 5, 2014:
Geez Can't miss it this year, if only for the mamajuana! lol
Darius Saczuk Apr 5, 2014:
Brugal and mamajuana I'd say...
Jessica Noyes Apr 5, 2014:
Quite likely rum...
Sp-EnTranslator (asker) Apr 4, 2014:
maybe Maybe there was a flag raised at the event but I can't say for sure as I was not part of the audience. What I am sure is there was live music and a whole lot of dancing...and possibly rum (?).
Sp-EnTranslator (asker) Apr 4, 2014:
Not literally it is a figure of speech, meaning they are proud in their traditions and culture.
Judith Armele Apr 4, 2014:
No, I understand it is not literal.
Jessica Noyes Apr 4, 2014:
Are they literally raising a flag, or just bringing the nation proudly to the attention of those attending the festival?

agree María González, M.A. English : Right on! It's about proudly celebrating or honoring Dominican traditions/heritage, not about raising any flag. You got the point - congrats! :-)

Spanish term (edited): que ponen bien en alto la bandera

that honor their proud nation

Personally, I would vote for staying away from any literal translation that includes "flag" here, none of which sound particularly natural in English.

Or, given the apparent context of a message "by and for Dominicans": that honor our proud nation

Or "heritage" instead of "nation."
