Spanish term (edited): conducidas desde su propio rol

community-driven

I understand this as “son conducidas desde su propio rol [dentro de la comunidad]” - literally: “… are driven from its own role [within the community]”, but I think this can be summed up in English as just “community-driven”. Because, if these agricultural promoters are being trained and then go on to develop actions within their communities, it’s inherent that they have “roles”.

I’ve translated lots of similar texts in the past that refer to an initiative widely employed in this field called “Community-Driven Development (CDD)”, and your text seems to be very much along these lines, so you may find the link below useful.
Example sentence:

…ya que las acciones desarrolladas por el grupo de promotores son conducidas desde su propio rol y la toma de decisiones siempre es asociada con la dinámica comunitaria.

…since the actions developed by the promoter group are community-driven, and decision-making is always associated with community dynamics.

agree neilmac : Neat solution :) Although I might have to do cartwheels to avoid using "community" twice in the same sentence...

Cheers, Neil. Yeah I did try to avoid using "community" twice, but I think in this particular instance it actually rings home the sense of "community" more, which this text seems to be all about.

in the course of their business

= as part of/in tandem with/ their day-to-day activities.
NB: I'd avoid using "carried out" twice in the same sentence.

IMHO, "desde" is often used uncomfortably like this and I often feel there is something missing, like "vantage point/privilged position", although then again brevity may preclude their insertion.

Nor do I perceive it as "part of their work". Their business activities serve as a channel or vantage point from which to engage in the socially responsible initiatives cited.
