The problem I'm having here is finding the right way to express the difference between "règles" and "codes". Is there an obvious one? I suppose "règles" will be the must-be-obeyed standards, whereas the "code" is more the accepted way of doing things, but is that really the correct interpretation of this sentence? Is it akin to the rule of not putting a knife into your mouth (to avoid injury) compared with this practice being considered against the code of good table manners?
Some background info: it's a rather unusual office block on a city centre corner plot that's raised on stilts to show the trunks of trees growing in an inner courtyard
