Italian term

millantato contatto

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general)
In a legal brief I came across this sentence:

"Il millantato contatto che A avrebbe procurato a B, dunque, non rappresentava per quest’ultima nessun valore aggiunto."

This sounds similar to "millantato credito" (which is a typical expression in Italian), though, as far as I know, is not widely used. The sense here is that the company A brags about the business contacts provided to B, although B claims that A's contribution was not really significant. Any idea of a possible English equivalent for "millantato contatto"? TIA

Vaunted (from the French vanter > boast about) contact is not a natural combination.

OK to vaunted contact, albeit as an odd collocation, though purported is bog-standard legal English cf. soi-disant in FR or so-called.
Note from asker:
You write that "vaunted contact" is not a natural combination (so, not a collocation?) but would it be possible to use it anyway? I was reading some definitions of it and it would be very appropriate in meaning. That doesn't mean I am rejecting purported, which is also very interesting. Thank you so much.

agree philgoddard : Vaunted (or perhaps much-vaunted) fits the bill perfectly. Purported is wrong, since it implies that the contact didn't exist. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/millantare

Thanks. (Much-)vaunted it is then.
