Not-Aus Leine

Non-PRO German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Change log

May 11, 2015 20:14: Johannes Gleim Created KOG entry

May 12, 2015 15:26: Kim Metzger changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Steffen Walter

Non-PRO (3): Lancashireman, Berit Kostka, PhD, Kim Metzger

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Ramey Rieger (X) May 12, 2015:
@Maya I will continue to support you an have nothing against your posting further questions. I'm never cynical, but can be very catty sometimes. Grin and bear it.

Johannes Gleim May 12, 2015:

Maja_K (asker) May 12, 2015:
@Ramey and @Berit Come on, are you being cynical now? If someone is supposed to be embarrassed, it's me, it's not either of the answerers. I have admitted my mistake, but I can't take it back, why do you all act so stubbornly about it? As someone said previously, you can turn to the moderators and have the question removed, if you feel so compelled to do so. In all truth, it was a stupid mistake of me, and that's that. And I don't think either that you have the right to judge my further posting of questions based on this one.
Ramey Rieger (X) May 12, 2015:
@Berit Just hide it, or leave it,. It's too late to save ourselves the embarrassment. Grin and bear it.

@ Berit So you have the option to ask the asker kindly to modify or delete his posting. If you are unsatisfied by her action, you are also free to call a moderator.

Johannes Gleim May 12, 2015:
No problem, Berit & Lancashireman My suggestion was targeted to the subject "Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general)". That's why marine applications are off the subject; even the asker provided such link, which may have misled you both.
Due to my previous experiences as electrical engineer and factory inspector I was familiar with this type of emergency stop devices and was sure it would fit the (spare) context. In other cases, if I have doubts on the real subject, or if the context is too ambiguously, I am used to ask for more context in the discussion box what is the right place for asking.

It happens that my proposals are not selected as askers may trust more to peers agreeing than to references. I do not delete my proposal in such cases, as it is always possible that the glossary or the questions are consulted later by other peers looking for terminology and even non-selected proposals may help. But you can always hide your answers, if poor or inadequate.
Berit Kostka, PhD May 12, 2015:
And everything that follows even more. Where can I cancel/annul my attempt of helping please?
Ramey Rieger (X) May 12, 2015:
My bad says it all.
Maja_K (asker) May 12, 2015:
Lancashireman I needed exactly what Mr Gleim provided as an answer, my bad that I wrongly posed the question. So sue me, or cancel out/annul the question, or just accept that it turned out the way it turned out as I can't change the description of my question.
Lancashireman May 11, 2015:
Maja_K Did you really submit 'pull-wire' to your client after seeing the English-language links to adverts for the selfsame product provided in the first hour?

Emergency Stop Devices/Rope Pull Switches
As per EN ISO 13850 the emergency stop function is a function that is intended to avert an impending hazard for personnel, damage to the machine or work in progress, or to alleviate existing hazards, and that is to be triggered by a single user action. For this purpose controlgear is required that is equipped with a red push-button, that is the mushroom-head button in red; the button is to have a
yellow background.
:
Rope pull switches
In the field of safety engineering, rope pull switches belong to the cat-egory of “Emergency stop devices with mechanical latching” according to ENISO13850. The required emergency stop function must be avail-able and functional at all times irrespective of the operating mode. After operation of the actuating element, the emergency stop device must automatically prevent or reduce the hazard in the best possible way.
Type examinations
To demonstrate conformity, the Machinery Directive also includes the pos-sibility of type examination, for example. Although all relevant standards are taken into account during development, we have all our safety switches subjected to additional type examinations by a notified body.
:
Switches with this symbol are approved by Canadian Standards Association (CSA, Canada and USA)

2.3
Destination and use
The emergency stop switch meets the requirements of EN ISO 13850, IEC/EN 60947-5-1 and IEC/EN 60947-5-5 Pull-wire emergency stop
switches are used on machinery and plants, where triggering the emergency stop command must be enabled at arbitrary points on the wire run
If the tensioned pull-wire is pulled or in case of wire breakage or if the optional emergency stop switch is pushed, the switching function of the pull-wire emergency stop switch is activated
