The word petroleum comes from the Greek roots "petra," meaning rock, and "oleum," meaning oil
IMHO, this won't make any sense when translated literally. There is no word neft' to compare against.

: Не не... Здесь суть не в том, откуда слово происходит, точнее не только в этом, а еще в том, что она прочно утвердилось за границей, нельзя выкидывать часть предложения. / тогда просто "foreign countries" просто убрать. Оставить только, что утвердилось.
