I am not at all sure if this is a valid term, even less so if it is the dedicated term in this field!
I just wanted to register a) the word order issue ('socle' qualifies 'faisceau', not the other way round) and b) the fact that I suspect it probably means that in this 'modular' wiring harness system, you have a 'base' harness (presumably like some kind of 'spinal cord') into/onto which other bits can be connected; it would this make sense for the 'protection' (and in what sense do they mean that? To check...) to be included in the 'core' part of the harness that doesn't change however you configure the rest. Get my drift...?

Could be! Yes, but it depends whether they mean 'the abstract notion of protection' or the physical 'protective device' etc.

| Got the drift. Perhaps 'core' harness might be better. Protection I assume is against current overload in the 'branches'. |

Not necessarily! 'socle' in FR very often = 'base' in EN, when the sense required is not 'basic'.

: Different context! That is talking about a 'faisceau' that simply happens to have a 'socle [en] plastique / métal' — not at all the same thing, I'm afraid.
