Spanish term

el freshmarket

Spanish to English Marketing Business/Commerce (general) networking
Existen diversas maneras de diagnosticar el estado de una organización ante la innovación, como por ejemplo la ratio de inversión, el freshmarket, etc.

I don't know what this term means, although it is already in English. I've tried searching, but all I get is the US food retailer.

Any ideas?

Charles Davis Jun 29, 2016:
Yes, I think it means new customers rather than customers captured from other suppliers, new in the sense of people who were not previously customers of anybody else. I was wondering about suggesting "new markets" or "new market segments" but I think they would mean moving into new market areas, which to me implies selling new kinds of products to new kinds of people, and I don't think it means that. I think it means new customers who were not previously consumers of the products they market.

I found this: Se puede crecer por dos vías: de mercado fresco o quitándole clientes a la competencia vía mejores ofertas de servicio.
So I wonder if it means not just new customers, as Charles suggests, but potential customers not served by other suppliers.

Or new markets. if it is to be used as any kind of indicator, it has to demonstrate some change. I could simply use fresh/new markets, but I have only seen English terms imported when they are in common usage. Strange!

new customers

I think this is the essential meaning, though it could be that there's a more suitable and/or precise term in marketing language. I've only found it in Spanish (Spanglish) as two words and in Latin America.

" El mercado argentino de telefonía móvil ha llegado a una situación de saturación, donde ya no hay fresh market (clientes nuevos), sólo crecimiento vegetativo relacionado con el crecimiento de la población."

Thanks, Phil. I suppose it is ambiguous.

emerging outlet business

Surely, this 'frisky market' also refers back to the 'organización ante la innovación' - whether drumming up new business or diverting clients from the competition.

A 'fresh market' could previously have referred to French & Spanish discos or pubs in West London where British girls in the Swinging Sixties used to exclaim: ''Ere, stop getting fresh, mate!'.
