It's written on the bottom of a Swedish High School Final Record Report. Someone has given me an English translation of the document and asked me to translate the English translation into Farsi (I guess he could not have found a Swedish-Farsi translator). Anyway. His English translation for the term reads "occasions", but it's awkward to me. Is this a correct translation for this term? What concept does it refer to?

Maybe I was unclear in my brevity. And answered partially in my discussion entry. But it seems that Folke and I do agree on 'times,' and we agree on 'occasions.'
Your term involves the number of times or incidents when a person was absent from class, and includes a statement of the hours of absence. frånvarotimmar = absence hours. So if a person is 15 min late to a class, this is recorded as 1 time (occasion or incident) and .25 hours absence. If they miss an entire 2 hr lab session, this is recorded as 1 time (occasion or incident) and 2 hrs absence.

Are you sure about your answer, Deane? Why Folke has a different answer? Is it because I have not provided that preceding phrase as a context? |

Yes, "occasions" is indeed one common translation for "tillfällen" (spelt with an 'e'). It could also mean "opportunities" or "times".
In your context, it could possibly mean '(teaching) sessions', but of course it would be easier to state the best English translation if you could give the full context.

I agree with Michele Fauble.

Note from asker:
I added more context as a discussion entry. Could it mean "classes"? Cause the word before it seems to mean "hours". |
What does "occasions" exactly refer to, after all, if it's the correct translation? |
