يوم الخميس، اليوم الموعود، بعد صلاة العشاء قدم أبو محمود وبعض أعمامه ومحمود غفلة. كان في استقبالهم أبي، وكبار العائلة. صُدم الحاضرون من هيئة محمود غفلة. شاب سعودي يأتي يوم خطبته مرتديا زيا أفغانيا. الأعراف تقول إنَّ الشاب في يوم خطبته أو زواجه يرتدي زيه العربي الأصيل. ثوب أبيض طويل، وغترة بيضاء أو حمراء، وعقال أسود. امتعض وجه أبي، وأحمر وجه القاضي محسن، أما عمي هادي فجلس مقابل محمود غفلة واضعا رجلا على رجل كدلالة على عدم الاحترام. وكأن محمود غفلة يريد أن يوصل لنا رسالة أن ابنتكم سوف يتزوجها شاب مجاهد في سبيل الله قد اغبرت قدماه من الجهاد في أفغانستان. كان منظره سخيفا في ذلك اليوم، وقد خالف العرف والأصول.
