Spanish term or phrase: legalización
The existing Kudoz entries don't seem right for this.
I assume it means "pass it officially as suitable for use", but how do we say that in English?
Many thanks for any pointers as my mind has gone blank!

"El CONTRATISTA tramitará todos los certificados y documentación requerida para legalización de las instalaciones dentro de su alcance y para su puesta en servicio"

Explanation:
You already have certificates/certification in the sentence so the repetition wouldn't be that great. Have a look at the links. I think the phrase fits in well here.

agree  philgoddard: You'd have to omit certificados y" from earlier in the sentence, obviously.

agree  Yvonne Gallagher: this is better (in terms of not repeating the "certificados")

  -> Thanks!

agree  neilmac: Don't know if I'd say "better", but it's certainly less formal than certification...

registration [(with the government)]

Explanation:
Alternative: formal registration.
(The facilities may need to be registered with the local or provincial government, fire department, building inspection service, etc.)
(I don't think legalización is stronger than this, in this case. E.g. I don't think it means "licensing".)

authorization

Explanation:
Other ways to define legalization are authentication and validation.
'The contractor will process the legal requirements and certification for the legalization (authorization) of the installations within his remit for implementation and availability for service.'

Example sentence(s):
  • Otros sentidos que definen la legalización son la autorización y la autentificación 'El contratista (contractor) procesará los requisitos legales y los certificados de la legalización (la autorización).'
  • Se trata de las instalaciones que están dentro de sus atribuciones (competencias) para su implementación y su disponibilidad para el servicio.
