French term
La relation de Viktorov
FVA
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Physics
I.A. Viktorov was a physicist who made an approximation for the Rayleigh and Lamb waves. Though I have used 'approximation,' I do not know which term is the most suitable in English:
1) relation
2) formula
3) approximation
4) law
1) relation
2) formula
3) approximation
4) law

Viktorov approximate solution
All of them can convey the meaning. It is an approximation/approximate formula used as to solve the equation of the Rayleigh and Lamb waves.

: The method referred to here (page 31) is the calculation of defect depth not wave velocity which is what the 'relation de Viktorov' refers to.

Althea Draper
: From what I can see, 'La relation de Viktorov' is an equation that determines the velocity of Rayleigh waves, and doesn't correspond to the ratios in your reference which look to be referring to attenuation of the waves rather than the absolute velocity.
