At the site above, there are several researchers there with this very degree. In short, a literal translation would appear to be more than advisable in this context. Indeed, if this had been the doctorate I earned, I'd want it translated this way myself. :-) To do otherwise, would be wrong. IMHO

neutral  Marcelo González: As for your list, Pat, it's not really a question of what's more common. (We know a 'standalone' PhD is.) It's a question of translating it to reflect the uniqueness of the degree, which we owe to its holder (and the client, of course).
