I am not sure the word should be there: "...monitoring of functional oxygen saturation ***of*** arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2)."

I am not a medical expert!

Doing a quick search on Google for similar expressions, it looks as if this may be a standard way of expressing it. The problem in you source text appears to be just the apparent repetition; it is possible that there should have been a comma after the first 'sauration' — i.e. 'and' is taken as read; or then again, that it is a typo for 'or' (R and F are adjacent keys!) — but in view of other examples I've found on the 'Net, I believe this is OK.

Asker: I don't believe so, I was just positing that as one potential error mechanism to be taken into account.
Note from asker:
Thanks Tony, so you're saying that there might be a comma missing?
Thank you, guys. Although I still need to look at it...

agree François Tardif : Oui, cela fait tout à fait du sens; « ...le monitorage (ou la surveillance) de la saturation en oxygène (fonctionnelle) de la (ou par la) SpO2
