It's the difference in meaning between 'complet' in FR and 'complete' in EN! In fact, the FR term covers both senses, wheras the EN ones are distinct. 'comprehensive' means 'covering all / a great many fields etc.', whereas 'complete' really does mean 'exhaustive'. So you might have a 'comprehensive' list of say foodstuffs, containing many categories of foods, whereas a ''complete' list would of course be extremely long, probably containing many items in each category. So your FR needs to reflect the breadth of the list, whereas 'complete' will probably be best translated as 'exhaustif' in FR. |
