German term

weggeklappt

German to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
This is an accident report. A young woman was injured. She says:

"Dann hab' ich den Schmerz im Rücken bemerkt und dann war ich weg. Ich weiß nicht, ob sie mich sediert haben, auf jeden Fall bin ich dann weggeklappt."

I guess I don't understand the word weggeklappt exactly and cannot think of how to translate it exactly.

Did she lose consciousness, or sth else?

Thanks!

Discussion

AllegroTrans Feb 5, 2022:
All true Michael but you cannot assume she collapsed onto the floor - she may already have already have been there
Michael Martin, MA Feb 5, 2022:
The colloquial German term merely implies losing consciousness but doesn't make it front and center like the other solutions here. A proper translation probably needs to be similarly informal, deal with the Wegklappen imagery, and not try to explain something that's already obvious.
uyuni Feb 4, 2022:
@ Michael A mere collapse doesn't necessarily go along with a loss of consciousness as insinuated in the OT...
This would rather be a syncope.

Meine Schülerin ist bewusstlos geworden bzw weggeklappt....?
Am Montag ist mir zum ersten mal eine Schülerin weggeklappt.Sie ist aufgestanden und umgekippt, nachdem sie vorher bereits wegen Schwindel mit einer Freundin an der frischen Luft war. Ich war sehr überrascht obwohl ich mir sowas bei ihrer Gesichtsfarbe hätte denken können.

collapsed (on the floor)

That's what it means.
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : She may have already been on the floor (or ground); I think you will find this means "lost consciousness"

passed out/(fainted)

Given the impression of retrograde amnesia (the person does not know whether or not he or she was sedated prior to the incident...)
