I've been trying to come up with way to convey this with the same grandiosity as "reigned" but don't know if I'm capturing it. I don't completely dislike "reigned solitary" and think it's an interesting way to phrase this, but wonder if it sounds too odd in US English? I would appreciate feedback if anyone has ideas or an opinion. Many thanks in advance.

I think this works perfectly well. There's an exact English equivalent, and we should respect the writer's choice of word.
