Spanish term

unidades de comercialización

Non-PRO Spanish to English Bus/Financial Transport / Transportation / Shipping EDI, goods transport, customs
SPAIN. This appears on a list of logistical software strings. I'm surprised it's not already in the glossary. There is no more useful context. I've consulted different sources and they offered different answers (marketing units/commercialisation units/trade units/...), so rather than just going eeny-meeny-miney-mo, I'm posting the query here.

"Número global de unidades de comercialización."

Althea Draper May 14, 2022:
According to this presentation, 'unidades de comercialización' fall under two categories - Unidades detallistas (e.g. a bottle of milk, a toothbrush, a box of tissues etc.) and Unidades No detallistas (e.g. a crate of apples, a pallet of bags of compost).

It states o Unidades de Comercialización detallista "Es aquella unidad de comercialización que es leída en el scanner del punto de pago en el punto de venta." However, within this there are 2 categories - 'fijo' and 'variable'.

So It may be synonymous with "unidades de ventas" (sale units). Interesting. I agree with phil that it probably refers to the way the items are sold, such as box or bottle, etc. Apparently it was previously translated as "trading units" but that seems to mostly refer to stocks and shares... I've e-mailed the client to ask if it means the same as "sale units" and they'll probably respond on Monday. Thanks for the comments, I really appreciate the help.
philgoddard May 14, 2022:
It could mean the way in which the items are sold, such as box or bottle. But there's no way of knowing, and I'd just do a literal translation.
Helena Chavarria May 13, 2022:
@Phil Yes, that too! Anything except commercialisation.
philgoddard May 13, 2022:
Sales rather than marketing.
Helena Chavarria May 13, 2022:
I'm not fond of 'trade' either!
Helena Chavarria May 13, 2022:
I always try to translate 'comercialización' as 'marketing'. The only reason is because 'commercialisation' is one of my pet hates.

A packaging and/or sales strategy can be seen from the POV of either the supplier/seller or the buyer. Either way, the common factor is the 'order' - placed by the buyer and fulfilled by the vendor.

neutral philgoddard : I don't see how you arrive at this - it just says "sales unit", which could mean anything. And your reference contradicts your answer - it says "pedido minimo".
