Hi there,
Looking for help distinguishing between "elaboración" and "receta." I have a few documents and some are called "recetas" and other are "elaboraciones."
The client says: Una elaboración es una mayonesa o una crema inglesa. Una receta es una tarta que a parte de usar ingredientes, puede incluir diferentes elaboraciones como un hojaldre, una crema inglesa, etc.
For the "elaboraciones" within a longer recipe, I have used the specific name, e.g. "For the mayonnaise," followed by the instructions, but the pages of the document have the word "Receta" or "Elaboración" at the top so I need to find a translation for the latter.
Thanks in advance!

I would think that what the client meant by "Una elaboración es una mayonesa o una crema inglesa" is that these are parts of the recipe that involve a preparation process. Otherwise, the sentence makes no sense.

"Preparation" is a noun. The verb would be "prepare" or "preparing".

Note from asker:
The issue is that they're using "elaboracion" as a noun. Here it feels like preparation is a verb. |

: The Sp text makes no sense though... ¨elaboración¨ is part of a recipe, and you need a recipe to make mayonnaise, puff pastry, etc. too.

Yes, but it sounds more posh if you say 'crème anglaise'! :)

una receta da instrucciones, medidas, tiempos... es como una fórmula que se debe cumplir, mientras que elaboración alude al procedimiento o preparación, que puede verse como algo en proceso o como resultado.
el cliente la interpreta como parte de la receta, así que la considera terminada y un paso o elemento de la misma (algo que hay que elaborar o tener preparado)
