Discussion

Daryo Oct 30, 2022:
Really? Just because every and any device used for processing information must have some very basic similarities between them, we can translate terms without bothering about the specific context? Yeah sure, what could possibly go wrong?
Johannes Gleim Oct 29, 2022:
@ Daryo le vrai problème n'est pas de comprendre l'ensemble de l'architecture du système informatique. Le terme est indépendant de l'emplacement et peut être utilisé dans n'importe quelle carte ou dispositif local ou distant.
Daryo Oct 28, 2022:
The real problem is not about "having to comply with some specific terminology", it's to start by understanding the architecture of the whole system.

All we know so far is that it's got s.t. to do with steam turbines and that there is some kind of "overall control system" - supposed to "control" what exactly?.

and "this is an equipment I/O module; it contains a data interface board; main processor; and local processors".

Without any more context, all that can be done is to stick to the "obvious": main/local = principal/local, without having any means to evaluate if it's the right translation.
FPC Oct 28, 2022:
@ All I don't see a problem with translating literally, unless there are some specific terminologies to comply with. As for the reason why one should be "central" and others "local" may it has to do with system operation rather than actual physical arrangement.
Tony M Oct 28, 2022:
@ FPC In Asker's other question, there is mention of 'local' as distinct from 'main' — although they appear to be ajacent??!
Asker replied: "this is an equipment I/O module; it contains a data interface board; main processor; and local processors"
Tony M Oct 28, 2022:
@ Asker The 'carte mère' is just one physical element that may constitute the concept of 'main processor'; it would be like saying 'petrol engine' = 'vehicle'
FPC Oct 28, 2022:
'principal' ou 'central' ce sont synonymes, sauf s'il y a des usages particuliers dans ton texte
AkretcheFazia (asker) Oct 28, 2022:
Hi florence; ce n'est pas la carte mère ?
florence metzger Oct 28, 2022:
