Apparently this is a mid-term exam in which the subject matter isn't repeated in a subsequent exam, Darned if I know how you can express this in a concise, snappy way

non-exempting mid-term
Explanation:
Adrian was half-way there. "No-liberatorio" means that the subject matter will still be included in the final exam , not the other way around.

parcial non liberatorio
part passed mid-term - non-exempting (hurdle exam)

Explanation:
Hurdle examination was used in my day in the UK and still is Down Under in Oz.

It may also depend on the UK institution aimed at. In professional / vocational exams, some accounting/law etc. Examining Bodies enter 'part outstanding passed to complete the qualification'.

Example sentence(s):
  • Hurdle requirement – an assessment requirement identified in the course profile that must be satisfied in order to receive a specific grade.

agree  Toni Castano: Full expression: "examen parcial no liberatorio de materia". Your explanation is correct, but I would add "exam" to your suggestion.
