capital social / acciones Explanation: In this context, stock and shares refer to one and the same thing from different perspectives - the company's share capital. (a) "the Fair Market Value of the Stock" --> the company's capital as seen from the external perspective of the market, or how much is an investor willing to pay for (a part of) the company (b) "a dividend payable in Shares" --> the company's capital as seen from the internal perspective of existing shareholders, who may be paid in cash or with additional shares Please do not use 'participaciones' in this context, since the distinction between acciones and participaciones does not exist in English as such: Acciones: Shares in a large company, whether listed or not (Sociedad Anónima) Participaciones: Shares in a small-to-medium-sized company (Sociedad Limitada) (Note that both translate as "shares" in English) In my opinion, you can easily maintain the (subtle) distinction between stock and shares by using 'capital' (or capital social) and 'acciones'. Below are links to reports issued by BBVA and Banco Santander using 'capital social' and 'acciones' in a way that would nicely translate as 'stock' and 'shares', respectively. Good luck! Reference: This might help... Reference information: The differences between stocks and shares are subtle, but important to understand when you are investing. A stock is the actual asset in which you invest, while a share is the unit of measurement for that asset. So, a stock tells you what you are investing in, and a share tells you how much of that stock you own. https://www.google.com/search?q=difference between stock and... |
