There are several quite different "nuances" for what "le volume des travaux" could mean.

Here "le volume des travaux" interpreted as the "quantitative estimate of the work to be done" make no sense whatsoever - whatever any glossary or Google Translate or any other online "XYZ Translate" has to say.

Neither "le volume des travaux" interpreted as the "list of types of work to be done" makes any more sense.

In a way you could see this whole clause as a kind of Lapalissade: you can't expect anyone to be responsible for something that is outside of "the contracted work": if someone was contracted to paint the walls in room A, whoever is tasked with inspecting the finished work has no business moaning about the cracks in the walls of room B.
