R/ UF

French to English Medical Medical (general) Ophthalmology
This is from an ophthalmology examination. There are various findings listed - results for biomicroscopie, acuité visuelle, fond d'œil and then we have

Conclusion: astigmatisme
R/ UF selon BT à leur demande : port constant - co 1 an : mesurer lunettes SVP
Diagnostic : astigmatisme

I don't know what the R stands for here, I think that UF may mean verres unifocaux (but not certain), and as I don't know what BT stands for either, I am at a bit of a loss.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Many thanks for the references, Sakshi. Your explanations make sense. Do you have any that specifically mention R/ UF or BT acronyms?
Sakshi Garg Sep 11, 2023:
@Lisa The astigmatism itself is caused by the irregular shape of the cornea/lens in each individual eye. It's not directly caused by one eye being different from the other, if that makes sense.

The key point is that astigmatism is an optical imperfection within each eye, not a difference between the two eyes per se. But the degree of astigmatism can vary between the two eyes.
Sakshi Garg Sep 11, 2023:
Astigmatism is an imperfection in the optics of one or both eyes, not directly a difference between the two eyes, and it can be corrected with glasses or contacts tailored to that specific refractive error.
Lisa Rosengard Sep 9, 2023:
I found a reference to astigmatism on Wikipedia. It mentions a refractive error due to rotational asymmetry in the eye's refractive power. (Is it an irregularity between both eyes?) It could be an eye prescription for uni-focal glasses when the visual acuity of one eye is less than the other. It's definitely about measurements for glasses, which can be a correction for astigmatism.

Could R/ be a variation on Rx, prescription?
Althea Draper (asker) Sep 9, 2023:
Apologies - it should read:

Conclusion: astigmatisme
Thérapie: R/ UF selon BT à leur demande : port constant - co 1 an : mesurer lunettes SVP

Rectification/Unifocaux

The R/UF stands for Rectification/Unifocaux, meaning Correction/Unifocal lenses

This indicates that the recommended treatment is corrective unifocal lenses to address the astigmatism.

BT likely stands for Besoin de traitement meaning Treatment needed - referring to the patient's request for treatment.
Note from asker:
Thanks Sakshi. Do you have any references that show these in use?
