French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / Photovoltaic systems
French term or phrase:Cellule d’irradiation
From instructions for the use of a road surface photovoltaic system:
"Irradiation cell" doesn't sound right to me in this (non-nuclear) context
The BME688 is the first gas sensor with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and integrated high-linearity and high-accuracy pressure, humidity and temperature sensors. It is housed in a robust yet compact 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.9 mm³ package and especially developed for mobile & connected applications where size and low power consumption are critical requirements. The gas sensor can detect Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) and other gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the part per billion (ppb) range. https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/products/environmental-senso...
This exemplifies many other sensors. It should be emphasised that these are chips located in a housing and note that, as a factory inspector, I have checked many manufacturers for compliance to standards, including for gas sensors, and am therefore familiar with their internal layout.
While reading my technical-scientific journal today, I came across another sensor that draws its energy from a solar panel and detects gases and smoke with a micromechanical chip. It was easy to track down on the Internet.
The Silvanet Wildfire Sensor is designed to detect forest fires within minutes, often during their early smoldering phase, greatly reducing the risk of them spreading out of control. Our solar-powered wildfire sensors use LoRaWAN for wireless data transmission and can run maintenance-free for up to 15 years without the need for batteries, avoiding the use of lithium and other toxic materials. https://www.dryad.net/wildfiresensor

The radiators in my house radiate heat, not light. I feel warm but do not, as far as I am aware become irradited. The sensor in my body indicates that I am warm.
I'm sorry, but "radiation" is the exact opposite of "irradiation". You should already know that from your Latin lessons. Example: religiosus = conscientious, faithful, God-fearing, pious, holy irreligiosus = godless iniustus = unjust, unfair, wrong iustus = just, honest, upright, lawful, right
Again: Radiation is the light emitted from any source. Irradiation is the received light from the source. The context deals only with irradiation.
Would you please close the question. Whether you award me the points is not important, but would at least put an end to further discussion points. Thank you, Chris. aka bashiqa.
A sensor is a device that produces an output signal for the purpose of detecting a physical phenomenon. In the broadest definition, a sensor is a device, module, machine, or subsystem that detects events or changes in its environment and sends the information to other electronics, frequently a computer processor. Analog sensors such as potentiometers and force-sensing resistors are still widely used. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensor
Note: A metering instrument is a device (containing sensors for sensing environmental values)
D'ailleurs, cette terminologie est également utilisée par sevensensor.com : "Irradiance sensors are devices that measure the amount of sunlight that falls on a specific surface in a given time period. These sensors are widely used in photovoltaic (PV) plants to measure the amount of solar radiation that is available for conversion into electricity." https://www.sevensensor.com/irradiance-sensor-types-and-usag...
Le demandeur Mark a pourtant posé sa question précisément ainsi : ""Irradiation CELL" doesn't sound right to me" !
Very industrious! But please inform yourself about the basics of electronic measurement technology first. You always need a reference point, in this case the "cellule de référence". When measuring voltage, for example, you need the earth or the protective conductor as a reference point. You also need a reference point when measuring other values. I measured temperatures electronically for 16 years during my professional career and always used a reference point. A simple example would be a thermocouple with hot and cold leads. Conclusion: the reference cell is a necessary part of the irradiation sensor, but not the irradiation sensor itself. Incidentally, we do not need to rely on competitors if the customer WebdynSun has already chosen or coined the term itself.
I have spent the last 30 minutes outdoors feeling the warmth of the solar radiation. I now feel sufficiently irradiated to come back indoors. No further refs.
As a factory inspector, I have also checked SMA and its products, e.g. Sunny Boy, for conformity with the certifications and therefore know them very well. Even back then, they only ever talked about "irradiation".
What are the similarities and differences between radiation and irradiation? There is some confusion in the use of these two words. Relevant answer: It just depends on the point of view of view. Radiation is the energy emitted by a source. Irradiation is the process of exposing an object to radiation. https://www.researchgate.net/topic/Radiation This energy must penetrate the air layer and any clouds and is further reduced by the angle of incidence and any shading from trees and neighbouring buildings.
It is superfluous to invent a new designation because the device is already distributed by the manufacturer under the name "Irradiation and Temperature Sensor". If only the "Irradiation sensor" is emphasised in the context, the name can be shortend to "Irradiation Sensor". You wouldn't rename the United States of America either.
From the description in your additional context, it sounds like a PV solar monitoring system. My mum's solar panels inverter has a unit in it that sends data about the instantaneous PV power generated to a small unit that can display real time generation or historic generation. Examples in this link for domestic and large sale generation https://www.solartradesales.co.uk/Cache/Downloads/Sunny-beam... There are also units that can be installed directly onto solar modules and measure irradiation and temperature, see here https://documents.unboundsolar.com/media/sma-sunny-sensor-bo...
